J. Stewart Moore is the principal attorney of the Law Offices of J. Stewart Moore, P.C. As passionate and dedicated advocate, Mr. Moore works diligently to provide aggressive representation for his clients. He has a criminal defense experience in both New York State Courts and Federal Courts. Having a deep understanding of criminal law, Mr. Moore has defended matters ranging from drug and DUI charges to domestic disputes. He personally understands the devastating impact that a criminal record can have on an individual, their family and their community. He also works on many complex matters involving, civil litigation family law, municipal law and estate planning.
Mr. Moore knows that these legal matters can be emotionally and financially draining. He will fight zealously for each client, and is committed to excellence and expediency when seeking to resolve his clients’ legal matters.
Prior to practicing law, Mr. Moore’s has had more than 30 years of mortgage default advocacy experience. He has worked as a Legislative Assistant to a U.S. Congressman in Washington D.C. . One of his principal duties as a Legislative Assistant was to work as a counselor with the Department of Housing and Urban Development. His experiences included working with Suffolk County based fair housing organizations. He assisted families with landlord–tenant and mortgage default issues. He has successfully represented numerous homeowners with mortgage foreclosures. Mr. Moore has also worked with the Town of Huntington as a Hearing Officer, Special Prosecutor and an Assistant Town Attorney.
J. Stewart Moore is a native of Long Island. He has devoted much of his life and interest to the local community and political affairs. He graduated the State of New York SUNY at Old Westbury with a Bachelor’s in Science in Politics and Urban Studies. Mr. Moore attended the University of Tennessee Graduate School of Urban Planning. Mr. Moore holds a Juris Doctorate Degree from the Jacob D. Fuchsburg School of Law at Touro College.
Mr. Moore is a former member of the congressional staff of Thomas J. Downey in Washington D.C. J. Stewart Moore is a founding member of the Amistad Long Island Black Bar Association where he presently serves as the Executive Director. He is a member of the National Bar Association, the Suffolk County Bar Association, the Huntington Lawyers Club, the New York State Independent Judicial Election Qualification Committee, and the NAACP. He is a former member of the Executive Board of the Huntington Democratic Committee, a founding member of the Suffolk County Caucus of Black Democrats, a member of the Huntington Political Action Coalition, and the Town of Huntington African American Historical Designation Committee.
Most recently, Mr. Moore has engaged in civil matters representing a civic organization in a Voting Rights challenge and flood victims seeking damages from the Town of Riverhead. Mr. Moore has also recently represented attorneys facing discipline at the hands of the Grievance Committee.
