Robert I. Elan serves as the Managing Attorney for The Elan Law Firm and is based in the New York office. Mr. Elan is a skilled trial and appellate lawyer who has practiced law in New York since 1975. From 1975 through 1991, Mr. Elan served as a litigator, Managing Attorney and Attorney of Record for Great American Insurance Companies in the State of New York.

Thereafter, Robert I. Elan served as litigator, Managing Attorney and Attorney of Record for General Accident Insurance Company at its office in Brooklyn, New York and later as senior trial attorney for the Smith Mazure Law Firm in New York. He opened his own law practice in 1995 to specialize in personal injury, real estate, commercial litigation and transactional matters, handling matters from inception through appeals.

Robert I. Elan has briefed and/or argued numerous appeals in New York before the Appellate Division-First Department, Appellate Division-Second Department and Court of Appeals, including matters of “first impression.” He is a graduate of the University of Baltimore School of Law and has been a member of the American Bar Association from 1975 to present and on the Committee for Business Law.

Robert I. Elan has taught Law at CUNY-Queens College for more than 25 years and is the author of “The Supplemental Guide to the Uniform Commercial Code.” He has served as a judge in nationwide Moot Court Competitions of law schools sponsored by the American Bar Association for many years and has been honored for his service by the ABA.  His oldest son, Evan Elan, is a graduate of The George Washington Law School, member of Law Review and the head of The Elan Law Firm’s Washington, D.C. office.
