Jane Bergner’s practice encompasses a broad range of tax matters in the areas of Federal and D.C. taxation, including tax audit and controversy matters, tax collection disputes, innocent spouse issues, civil litigation at the trial and appellate levels, corporate, business and individual transactional tax planning, the representation of tax-exempt organizations, and estate, gift and wealth planning and probate. Jane is an author and frequent speaker on tax matters, and her articles have appeared in a number of journals. In the past she served as a trial attorney in the tax division of the United States Department of Justice where she received intensive legal experience in both tax law and litigation. Jane formerly chaired the 1,500-member District of Columbia Bar Taxation Section. Jane received her J.D. from Columbia University Law School. Jane is admitted to the District of Columbia Bar and is a member of the Federal Bar Association, Washington D.C. Estate Planning Council, the Court of Federal Claims Bar Association and the American Bar Association Section of Taxation, including Section’s Committees of Civil and Criminal Tax Penalties, Court Procedure and Practice and Estate and Gift Taxes.
Jane has been included in the Best Lawyers of America. While she was serving as Chair of the District of Columbia Bar Taxation Section, Jane’s program to assist non-filing taxpayers to reenter the Federal tax system was awarded the Bar’s Best Section Community Outreach Project.
