Fleischmann earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Dayton in 1969 and his Juris Doctor from Boston University School of Law in 1972.
Throughout his career, Fleischmann has held prominent roles in both private practice and public service. As the founder of The Law Offices of Thomas J. Fleischmann & Associates in St. Charles, Illinois, he litigated cases across multiple states, including Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, New York, and Pennsylvania, focusing on product liability, insurance coverage, and civil rights. Notably, he successfully represented a client in a case involving an insurer’s failure to disclose premium-determining factors for major medical insurance marketed to sole proprietors. Prior to this, he served as a partner at Chuhak & Tecson P.C. in Chicago, where he defended healthcare professionals and institutions against negligence claims, represented clients in commercial disputes, and conducted internal corporate investigations, including representing corporations before federal grand juries.
Fleischmann was also a founding owner of Gessler, Flynn, Fleischmann, Hughes & Socol, Ltd., where he represented clients nationwide in matters of product liability, civil rights, professional negligence, and federal criminal defense. He successfully litigated on behalf of investors against commodities futures brokers and played a key role in the firm’s management committee, while also organizing and directing the associates’ training program. Earlier in his career, as a partner at Rooks, Pitts, Fullagar & Poust, he handled complex commercial litigation, including construction disputes, insurance coverage, and trademark infringement. One of his notable achievements there was securing a $2.7 million verdict for a Fortune 100 company while successfully defending against an $8 million counterclaim.
In addition to his private practice, Fleischmann served as a Special Attorney for the United States Department of Justice in Chicago. In this role, he represented the U.S. in ten major prosecutions, supervised federal law enforcement agencies in investigations of white-collar crime, political corruption, and racketeering, and contributed to the conviction of the then-President of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. His extensive exposure to the workings of the Department of Justice further solidified his reputation as a skilled and dedicated legal professional.
Fleischmann is an active member of the American Bar Association’s Litigation Section, the DuPage County Bar Association’s Civil Litigation and Appellate Law Committees, and Rotary International in Geneva, Illinois. He has also contributed to the legal community as a Public Arbitrator for NASD Dispute Resolution, an Arbitrator for the Kane County Circuit Court (certified as a Panel Chairperson), and a lecturer for the Illinois Institute of Continuing Education, where he taught “Handling Business and Commercial Litigation.”
