Introducing John Richards: Esteemed Patent Expert
Meet John Richards, Of Counsel and a resident at the New York Office. With over four decades of patent experience, John specializes in chemical and biochemical patent matters. His expertise includes drafting and prosecuting patent applications in the United States, Europe, and abroad. Notably, John handled the global patenting and licensing for the groundbreaking Alzheimer’s Disease drug, known as Razadyne in the U.S and Reminyl internationally.
In Europe, John represents clients of the London offices before both the UK Intellectual Property Office and the European Patent Office (EPO). He also excels in negotiating and drafting patent know-how and license agreements.
John Richards began his career in the patent department of the prestigious British chemical company, Albright & Wilson, in 1966. Joining Ladas & Parry in 1973, he became a partner in 1982.
John holds a B.A. and M.A. from the University of Cambridge, and an LL.B. from the University of London. He is a member of numerous esteemed associations, including the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), the American Group of AIPPI, the American Bar Association (ABA), the European Patent Institute (EPI), and the Chartered Institute of Patent Agents (U.K.).
His contributions to the field are remarkable, as he serves as the general editor of “Legal Aspects of Introducing Products to the United States” (Kluwer 1988), and co-author of “Intellectual Property and the Internal Market of the European Community” (Graham & Trotman 1993).
In addition to his legal practice, John Richards is also an adjunct associate professor at Fordham University School of Law, teaching U.S. and international patent law. He is also a professor at John Marshall Law School in Chicago, where he instructs a course on international patent law. John frequently shares his expertise through writings and speaking engagements on international intellectual property issues, with a particular focus on patents and copyrights in the United States, Canada, India, and the Far East. His exceptional contributions have earned him recognition as a New York Super Lawyer.
