As a mediator, Karen is trained for both civil litigation disputes and community disputes and served as a court small claims mediator. Her most recent past includes personal injury litigation and medical malpractice.  She has more than 100 hours of certified training and has participate in ongoing CLE training and has participated and conducted numerous mediations. She is quick to identify legal issues and areas of conflict, examining possible solutions for choices and options to be examined for settlement.

Karen has worked in State and City government, in the home building industry, private litigation and is skilled in many areas of law including Personal Injury, Real Estate, Business, Trusts and Estates, Business Organizations, Land Acquisition, Contracts, Insurance, Land Use Permits, Zoning and Construction.

Karen Matcke Crosby has handled legal representation in all areas of acquisition, design, development, construction, building, title, deeds, ownership, ownership entities, lending, insurance, boundaries and general real estate or land development. She understands that relationships whether among family or in business affiliations require careful consideration. Karen works with and incorporates affiliates and experts in areas needed, including tax and finance to ensure everyone with information is participating in mediation, so that the parties’ needs are fully met.

Karen received her J.D. from Santa Clara University School of Law, 1988 and B.A. in Political Science, Pre-Law, Public Administration from California Polytechnic State University-San Luis Obispo, 1985, Trained as a Certified Mediator-Professional Mediation Associates 2009, Served on Humboldt Mediation Services Board 2009-2010.

Karen is a member of the San Francisco Bar Association, Contra Costa County Bar Association, California Bar Association and was former president of the Contra Costa County Bar Women’s Section. Karen has worked with people with developmental and educational disabilities, special education issues, volunteered at numerous organizations, too many to list, including the Contra Costa Bar Association, Fee Dispute Arbitrator, Barristers, CASE in San Francisco, Autism related groups, special needs related issues, and  served on the fundraising committee for Las Trampas Inc.

Karen earned the Sacramento Capital Internship; with Senator Nicholas Petris, 1984, Extern for the Honorable Peggy Hora; Alameda Superior Court 1988 and Honors Moot Court Board, 1986.
