Mr. Bekman received a B.A. degree from the University of Maryland in 1968 and his JD degree from the University Of Maryland School Of Law in the year 1971. He is certified not only as a Civil Trial Specialist by the National Board of Trial Advocacy in 1980 but also certified by The American Board of Professionals Liability Attorneys and also Proctor in Admiralty
Mr. Bekman has been a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers since 1993 and served on the Board of Regents from 2006-2010. He has been recognized by Best Lawyers in America for over 30 years in the fields of medical malpractice, personal injury litigation, products liability, and admiralty. He has been listed in Best Lawyers since 1989. Best lawyers has further recognized him as Lawyer of the Year in 2010, 2011 and 2013.
