James P. Kenny, the founder of The Kenny Law Firm, has been practicing law since 1997. After graduating from law school but before founding the firm, Mr. James P. Kenny worked for Aon Corporation for five years in its Complex Claims and Professional Liability Department.

There he managed a legal malpractice program and an architects and engineer program and handled directors and officers liability cases. He also conducted audits of healthcare facilities and managed a national nursing home program.

While in law school, James P.  Kenny worked for a small insurance company that was underwritten in the Lloyds of London marketplace and by other international reinsurers. This experience in dealing with the various markets and different reinsurance treaties triggered Mr. Kenny’s interest and desire to focus his practice on insurance coverage and insurance recovery for policyholders.

He has extensive experience with reviewing coverage for different kinds of claims made and reported policies (e.g., legal malpractice, directors and officers, and architects and engineers, etc.), occurrence based policies (e.g., commercial and general liability policies, product recall insurance policies, life insurance, etc.), and has prosecuted bad faith litigation involving first party and third party cases.

Prior to law school, James P. Kenny studied philosophy at Loyola University Chicago. He subsequently graduated from the University of Illinois Chicago Law School f/k/a The John Marshall Law School.

James P. Kenny is admitted to the Illinois Bar. He has also been admitted on a case by case basis as pro haec vice in Colorado and Ohio. He has litigated cases in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois and the Multi-District Litigation Court in the United States Northern District of California. He has prosecuted arbitrations in the Cook County Mandatory Arbitration Commercial program and through JAMS. He has mediated cases with JAMS and ADR.  He has also handled appeals in the Illinois Appellate Court for the First District of Illinois.

James P. Kenny has been a certified Arbitrator for the Circuit Court of Cook County, Illinois, since 2011.

In addition to insurance law, Mr. Kenny handles cases involving restrictive covenants, construction defects, and commercial leases, Federal computer fraud and abuse act, Illinois trade secrets act, consumer fraud and abuse act, breach of fiduciary duties, conversion, fraud, and tortious interference with advantageous business relationship or expectancy, defamation and intentional infliction of emotional distress, personal injuries (professional negligence of attorneys, pharmacists and insurance brokers; truck and automobile liability; and premises liability), labor and employment (wage and hour, wrongful termination, sexual harassment, and discrimination).

Mr. Kenny is a member of the Chicago Bar Association, Illinois Trial Lawyers Association, and the American Bar Association. He is also a presenter teaching CLE Courses on topics like the Challenges in Illinois Insurance Coverage Litigation.

James P. Kenny has been married to his wife for over 23 years and has three wonderful children all in high school and college.  Mr. Kenny had the great pleasure of coaching each of his kids’ grade school baseball and basketball teams.
