Dorian Cartwright founder and attorney of the Law Office of Dorian Cartwright started his firm more than 10 years ago and has been practicing law for over 20 years. Mr. Cartwright is admitted to the state bar of California, and is a registered patent attorney before the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office. He specializes in patent prosecution matters before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and additionally, patent litigation, patent licensing, including the drafting, filing, and prosecuting of hundreds of patent applications and electrical engineering. Mr. Cartwright’s formative experience came as a patent associate for several years at Fenwick & West LLP in Palo Alto, CA and Mountain View, CA. During his time at various law firms, Dorian has represented clients such as Cisco Systems, IBM, Google, Apple, and Intuit.
The Law Offices of Dorian Cartwright celebrated 10 years of patent success for the year 2020. It has been one of the biggest years so far for Dorian’s firm. He adapted to guide clients during the COVID slow down, and now, in preparation for the post-COVID economy. Mr. Cartwright saw a recent uptick not only in electronic inventions for dealing with COVID, including a robot for viral disinfection and COVID outbreak detectors but also in e-commerce inventions and distributed computer networking as supporting technologies for working from home during shelter-in-place. “Different societal stresses inspire different innovations,” says Cartwright and, “integrating these identified changes into real-time service for my clients is my passion.”
Mr. Cartwright received a J.D. from the University of Iowa Law School. There, he was a member of the Iowa Law Journal and an assistant to Professor Mark Janis, who teaches patent law courses. He earned an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from North Carolina State University and a B.S. in Civil Engineering from North Carolina A&T State University. He taught electronics laboratory to undergraduate-level students at North Carolina State University.
Mr. Cartwright is a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc., Tua Beta Pi (engineering honor society); and Chi Epsilon (Civil Engineering honor society).
Besides practicing as a patent professional, Mr. Cartwright is an active real estate developer and also a black belt instructor in Brazilian jiu-jitsu of the Gracie tradition.
