Deidre Baumann, partner at Baumann & Shuldiner has been practicing law since 1992. She is admitted to practice in the state of Illinois. Ms. Baumann appears in both State and Federal Courts, at both the trial and appellate levels, on a wide variety of matters, including employment discrimination, civil rights and appellate law. She has received large verdicts for her clients in employment discrimination cases in federal court. Ms. Baumann background in civil rights law gives her experience with people who are treated differently because of who they are. She has worked diligently to secure and preserve civil rights for marginalized members of the local community, representing people who’ve been wronged.  A case that Baumann was very proud to handle was the Burr Oak Cemetery first class action suit. As lead Counsel in the Chancery Division of the Circuit Court of Cook County, she worked for many years on the case a burial site mostly an African-American, where  cemetery—employees of the cemetery digging up grave sites and dumping the remains.

In addition Ms. Baumann does appellate work. She wrote amicus briefs for the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association, and argued in front of the Illinois Supreme Court. She knows how things work in a courtroom and how people should be treated in a courtroom, which is equally. She understands what people go through and the struggles many people face. She always tried to make a positive impact on the world.

Ms. Baumann received her Bachelor of Science in Political Science from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, 1989 and Juris Doctor from the University of Illinois, College of Law, 1992, receiving that year, the Rickert Award for Excellence in Public Service. Immediately after sitting for the Bar Examination, she began working as an intern at the Office of the Cook County Public Defender, where she assisted with felony jury trials. After leaving the Office of the Cook County Public Defender, she began working at a small boutique firm specializing in First Amendment law, where she represented persons restrained from engaging in constitutionally protected speech. In 1996, Ms. Baumann opened her own law office where she continued to litigate issues of constitutional import.

Deidre Baumann has been an active member of the Bar. She is currently serving on the Decalogue Society, Board of Managers, the Illinois State Bar Association (ISBA) Assembly for Cook County, and as Co-Chair for the Women’s Bar Association Diversity and Joint Programming Committees. Previously served on the ISBA Standing Committee on Professional Conduct, as former President of the North Suburban Bar Association, as Co-Chair for Judicial Evaluations for the Suburban Bar Coalition, and on numerous committees with the Women’s Bar Association. Served as the Chair of the Constitutional Law Committee for the Chicago Bar Association (CBA), as a Legislative Liaison for the CBA, and as a Chair of the CBA Planning Committee for a Seminar on Hate Speech. Was appointed by the Chicago Bar Association, Board of Managers, to the Judicial Re-Map Subcommittee as well as the Anti-Terrorism Legislation Task Force. Also a member of the Cook County Bar Association, the Chicago Lesbian and Gay Bar Association, and the legal fraternity Phi Alpha Delta.

Ms. Baumann is an active member of her community. She is currently secretary of the Lane Tech Alumni Association, Lane Tech being her High School Alma Mater, and since 2004, she has served as President of the Chicago/Cook County 4-H Foundation, an organization dedicated to providing scholarships for deserving 4-H youth who are attending a college or university.
