Shelly Werbel is Managing Partner of White Werbel & Fino, LLP which is located in the Financial District in lower Manhattan. She and her firm have earned the reputation for having outstanding service in insurance defense litigation as its members have practiced law in personal injury field for over 35 years. Today, their tradition of excellence continues with their law practice focusing solely in personal injury defense litigation and subrogation for the insurance industry and corporations. Shelly Werbel, along with her partner Paul Fino, founded the law firm of White Werbel & Fino, LLP, as a successor firm to Paul Fino’s prior defense firm where he was a founding and senior partner, where Shelly was “of counsel” from 2013 to January 2018. She was admitted to practice law in the State of New York in 1989 and the State of New Jersey in 1990. Attorney Werbel has exclusively handled personal injury and medical malpractice actions that have run the gamut from motor vehicle accidents to assorted premises liability actions, nursing home negligence and bed sore cases, workplace injuries, construction site accidents, labor law cases and cases that involved municipal liability and wrongful death actions. Shelly oversees the office’s caseload, while still a frequent well-known presence in the NYC metropolitan area’s courthouses. Additionally, she handles many of the firm’s mediations and arbitrations. Prior to joining White, Werbel & Fino, Shelly was a partner and senior managing attorney of her own firm, with years of litigation experience. Shelly has spent many of those years as a plaintiff’s personal injury attorney, so she comes to the defense side with a unique perspective that often allows her to anticipate an opposing counsel’s arguments or strategy.
Shelly graduated from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, receiving her J.D., cum laude and obtaining her B.A., with honors from Pratt Institute.
Shelly is on the Board of Governors of the New York City Trial Lawyers Alliance, having served as their Board Chairman, President, Vice-President and Treasurer. NYCTLA is a unique bar association that is comprised of both plaintiff and defense counsel, whose goal is to foster positive and productive working relationships between the bars and the judiciary for the advancement of our clients and the legal profession. She has also served as an Arbitrator for the Civil Court of the City of New York, Small Claims Division for many years, member of the New York Supreme Court, Tort Advisory Committee for NY County, New York State Bar Association. In addition, she is a member of the Brooklyn Bar Association, the Brooklyn Women’s Bar Association and has been on the Editorial Board and has been a contributor to “The Brooklyn Barrister.”
