Joseph W. Price Jr, is an attorney at Snell & Wilmer located in Orange County. He has been practicing law since 1972. Mr. Price is admitted to practice law in the state of California and the United States Patent and Trademark Offices. His areas of concentration is intellectual property, and science and technology law including patent, trademark and copyright, licensing and litigation matters. He has been involved in litigation matters since 1969 in state and federal courts in patent, trademark, copyright, trade secret, and unfair competition matters. Joe’s experience includes patent work in internet communication systems, computer network systems, semiconductor processing, optics, plasma displays, telecommunications, and related software.

A most noteworthy patent case, Mr. Price was involved in was in the case of a Japanese client that was building a ramen noodle factory in California, a Japanese competitor with a factory in the same state announced in a Japanese newspaper that they had the rights to the ramen noodles brand, which created concern for the bank that help finance the business. As the business owner’s attorney, Mr. Price reviewed the competitors patent that listed their President as the sole inventor, he took action and filed a lawsuit to invalidate the patents. A federal judge ordered that the inventor appear for a deposition for one week within the next month. After the deposition, when the President was not able to answer technical questions on the claims, and delegate actual work to his employees in the lab that had not been listed as inventor on the patent, the patents were abandoned and the lawsuit was settled.

Prior to joining Snell & Wilmer, Mr. Price worked as a partner at law firms Price and Gess, Jackson, Jones and Price and as a Patent Examiner at the U.S. Patent Office.

Mr. Price graduated from Villanova University (B.M.E., 1964), received his J.D., from Georgetown University Law Center, 1967 and obtained his M.S., Tax from Golden Gate University, 1987. He is a member of the American Bar Association, Orange County Bar Association, Orange County Patent Law Association, Founding President, Los Angeles Intellectual Property Law Association Howard T. Markey Intellectual Property American Inn of Court (2013-present). Mr. Price has published books on patent and trademark topics: “Practical Guidelines to U.S. Patent Prosecution for the Japanese Practitioner,” Patent Management (April 1992),”Price Restrictive Patent Licenses,” Journal Patent Office Society (February 1968).
