Erik D. Fine is a senior associate at Simms & Associates. His primary focus is in the areas of criminal defense and personal injury. Mr. Fine has served both as a police officer and corrections officer for a total of 19 years. As part of his law enforcement training, he was certified as a traffic accident re-constructionist by the Institute of Police Technology and Management and is experienced in car, motorcycle, commercial vehicle and train crashes, which is an asset for his experience in personal injury law.
A proud veteran, Mr. Fine served honorable in the United States Navy as a Hospital Corpsman aboard the aircraft carrier, USS Enterprise (CVN-65). He is also a certified paramedic, having successfully passed his National Registry Exam in 2007. With a strong tradition of service to his community and country. He believes that his clients deserve the highest-quality representation.
Mr. Fine is a graduate of Kansas City Community College where he received an Associate of Arts degree in Law Enforcement in 1989 while on a baseball scholarship. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in Criminal Justice in 1991, and was admitted to the Birmingham School of Law in 2008 and received his Juris Doctor in 2012. He is a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Birmingham Bar Association, the Birmingham Bar Association, Municipal Courts Committee, 2014-2015. Once a year, Mr. Fine teaches a traffic accident causation class as a guest speaker at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, using trigonometry and mathematical equations to reconstruct traffic accidents.
Mr. Fine is married to his wife Annie, they have two sons Kyle and Kevin and a granddaughter Brynlee.
