Before working for a local Brunswick, Georgia, In 2003, R. Flay Cabiness, II, formed his own law firm, and has devoted his practice in the areas of Bankruptcy, Social Security, Probate, and General Trial Practice. Subsequently, Flay opened a second office under the trade name The Bankruptcy Group in Hazlehurst, Georgia. In 2016, a third office location was opened in Jesup, Georgia. Flay is currently admitted to the State Bar of Georgia, Georgia Court of Appeals, Georgia Supreme Court, Southern District of Georgia, and the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals. He is also a member of the Brunswick-Glynn County Bar Association. In addition to the full time practice of law, Flay serves as a Deputy Magistrate Judge for Glynn County, Georgia.

Flay was born in Shelby, North Carolina, where he attended Crest High School. He graduated from North Carolina State University, where he achieved a B.A. in Political Science (1993) and a B.A. Philosophy (1994). Thereafter, he attended Mercer University, Walter F. George School of Law (1997). During law school, Flay was a member of the Mercer Law Review, where he also served as a Book Editor. Flay was honored to have been selected to the Brainerd Curie Honor Society.

After graduating from college, Flay decided to follow the path of his uncle, Marshall Sims, a lawyer from Griffin, Georgia. He decided to moved to Brunswick, Georgia, where he married his wife Melanie, who is the descendent of the founding McIntosh family, including one of its most famous ancestors, Lachlan McIntosh – a General in the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War. Flay and Melanie are the proud parents of two children. When not working, Flay is a supporter of the Boy Scouts, the Glynn Academy Red Terrors, and other civic organizations. He enjoys fishing, camping and spending time in time in the outdoors. He also attends First Baptist Church of Brunswick, Georgia.
