Kirk J. Retz is an attorneys whos understanding of construction comes not only from his legal training but also from his ten years experience in the construction industry. He supervised and managed construction crews, negotiated contracts and was responsible for the coordination, scheduling and completion of construction projects. He oversaw core and shell and tenant improvement construction for numerous buildings throughout Southern California. Mr. Retz also holds certificates as a Building Systems Technician and Building Systems Administrator.
Kirk J. Retz graduated from Loyola Law School, Los Angeles (J.D. 1993) and California State University, Northridge (B.A. 1989). Mr. Retz volunteers his time with the community. He is on the Board of Managers for the Torrance-South Bay YMCA, the Gift Planning Council for Loyola Marymount, is the Chair of the Bond Oversite Committee for El Camino Community College and is on the Parks and Activities Commission for the City of Rolling Hills Estates.
Kirk J. Retz has published articles such as “Integrated Project Delivery, The Good, The Bad and The Ugly” in the Real Property Section of the California State Bar Journal; “Construction Basics” presented at the West Coast Casualty Construction Defect Seminar and Continuing Education of the Bar; “A Game Plan for Surviving Construction Defect Litigation” in Utility Contractor Magazine; “The SB800 Quagmire” in ECA Magazine; and “When a Developer Becomes a Contractor in the Eyes of the Law” in ENR Magazine.
He also authored “Contractual Considerations and Issues Related to Integrated Project Delivery”, a chapter in the “Inside the Minds” book published by Aspatore Books, a Thompson Reuters business. A frequent speaker on construction and mold issues, Mr. Retz has spoken at the Pacific Coast Builder’s Conference, the RE/MAX International Summer Conference for Brokers/Owners & Managers and the Indoor Air Quality Association. Mr. Retz has been recognized by his peers as a Super Lawyer.
