Eugene F. Friedman, J.D. & Ph. D Partner at Friedman & Friedman, is admitted to the Illinois Supreme Court, the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, the United States Courts of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, the Eighth Circuit, and for the Federal Circuit, and the United States District Courts for the Northern District of Illinois, the Eastern District of Michigan and the District of Colorado. He is also admitted as a patent attorney at the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Mr. Friedman concentrates his practice in U.S. and international patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, commercial litigation, and professional responsibility.

Mr. Friedman graduated first in his class from the University of Maryland School of Law in 1973 where he was Order of the Coif. He also earned a Ph.D. in physical chemistry from the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana in 1966. Before that, he received a B.S. in chemistry and a B.A. in history from Tulane University in 1961 where he was Phi Beta Kappa and received the American Institutes of Chemists Award.

He lectures extensively in the fields of intellectual property and professional responsibility. He has given talks on legal ethics to the Cook County Bar Association, the Illinois State Bar Association, the Chicago Bar Association., the Decalogue Society of Lawyers, the Advocates Society, and the DePaul College of Law. For intellectual property, he has lectured at the Chicago Bar Association, the Illinois State Bar Association, the McHenry County Bar Association, the Kane County Bar Association, and the Decalogue Society of Lawyers. He has also given extended lectures in copyright law to the faculties at Triton College in River Grove, Illinois, and at Stevenson High School in Libertyville, Illinois.Mr. Friedman has also taught copyright law as an Adjunct Professor of Law at the Kent College of Law and was a faculty member and claim drafting instructor at the Patent Bar Review Course of the Patent Resources Group, Charlottesville, Virginia. He was also a coauthor of the treatise, PATENT PRACTICE, Patent Resources Institute, Charlottesville, Virginia (1998).Mr. Friedman served on the Committee on Professional Responsibility of the Illinois Supreme Court from 1998 to 2006. He was also an Instructor at the Illinois Professional Responsibility Institute of the Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission of the Supreme Court of Illinois in 1996. He has been a volunteer attorney at the Legal Clinic for the Disabled, Inc. He has served as an arbitrator at the Mandatory Arbitration Program of the Circuit Court of Cook County, Illinois, where he was also an instructor for arbitrators. He has also been a member of the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Hate Crimes Prosecution Council from 1999 to the present.He is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association’s Business Advice and Financial Planning Section Council, which he currently chairs, the ISBA assembly, and the Intellectual Property Section Council. He is also the former chairperson of the ISBA intellectual property section council, a former chairperson of the ISBA Antitrust Law Section Council, a former member of the Committee on Liaison with the ARDC, and the Professional Conduct Committee, past president of the Decalogue Society, past president of the North Suburban Bar Association, and past chairperson of the CBA Professional Responsibility and Solo/Small Firm Committees.

Mr. Friedman has been married to his law and life partner Gail Tuler Friedman for 49 years. They have been blessed with four grown children and 12 grandchildren ranging in ages from 23 to 3 years. Mr. Friedman’s hobbies include his family, flying airplanes, and playing baseball.
