Jon B. Gandelot has been engaged in the private practice of law in the Detroit area since receiving his Juris Doctor degree from Wayne State University in 1969. Jon received his undergraduate degree in economics from the University of Michigan in 1966 and is an unabashed Michigan fanatic. His charitable efforts on behalf of his undergraduate and law school alma maters have raised in excess of $40 million in contributions to the two schools.
Jon concentrates in the areas of estate planning, trusts, charitable planning and estate administration for well over 20 years. He knows not only estate planning puts you in charge of your finances, it can also spare your loved ones of the expense, delay and frustration associated with managing your affairs when you pass away or become disabled. He will guide you through a process that will guide you in the right direction, regarding your legal matter.
Jon is a member of Wealth Counsel, a national network of estate planning attorneys, as well as the founder and past chairman of the Michigan Forum of Estate Planning Attorneys. He is a frequent lecturer in the areas of estate and charitable planning and asset protection law. He has been a guest lecturer at The University of Michigan and at The University of Michigan Flint and has taught estate planning to scores of insurance professionals, accountants and financial planners.
Jon is also a member of the State Bar of Michigan, member of the Probate and Estate Planning section of the Michigan Bar. He has completed the Michigan Institute of Continuing Legal Education (ICLE) Probate and Estate Planning Certificate Program. He holds the highest ranking (AV) for legal ability and professional standards by Martindale-Hubbell. Jon’s past community involvement includes over 12 years as a member of the Grosse Pointe Board of Education, where he served as President five times. He served as President of The University of Michigan Club of Greater Detroit, and has served on the boards of Grosse Pointe Rotary, Rivertown Business Association, Detroit Historical Society, Chi Psi Fraternity Educational Trust, and The University Club. He is active at Grosse Pointe Memorial Church and is a past trustee and deacon of the Church. During July 2014 through June 2015, Jon served as President of the Grosse Pointe Rotary Club.
Jon is married to Lisa Mower Gandelot, they have two adult children, one grandson and live in Grosse Pointe Farms. His interests include fly-fishing, bicycling, woodworking, construction and historic preservation.
