Top Attorney – Frank K. Wheaton

The Law Offices of Frank K. Wheaton, Esq., Attorneys and Counselors at Law is a full service company that has two law offices located in Indianapolis, Indiana and Los Angeles, California (Madans & Wheaton). In 1984, Frank K. Wheaton started his distinguished private practice that primarily focuses on sports and entertainment law.

Frank K. Wheaton is admitted to the Indiana State Bar and the United States District Courts in both the Northern and Southern Districts of Indiana. He is also a member of the United States Court of Appeals, Fifth Circuit. Mr. Wheaton pursued a lifelong dream of becoming an attorney by matriculating at the University of West Los Angeles School of Law.  At UWLA, he was a member of the Moot Court Board of Governors, Vice President of the Sports/Entertainment Law Society, and Dean of the Delta Theta Phi Law Society. Mr. Wheaton served as an Of Counsel member of a prestigious California law firm in Pasadena, Newport Beach, and Palm Desert, California for five years.  He is also a professor and has taught Entertainment Law in several law schools and universities.

Before becoming an attorney, Mr. Wheaton attended Willamette University in Salem, Oregon before transferring to California State University at Northridge with a degree in Radio/TV and Film, Mr. Wheaton worked at KPFK-FM in Los Angeles where he was employed as a broadcast announcer, engineer, and producer.  From there, Mr. Wheaton was hired as an announcer at WHUR-FM in Washington, D.C., where the program he helped popularize, “The Daily Drum” continues to enjoy success to this day. For several years, the National Broadcasting Corporation in Washington employed Mr. Wheaton and he served under the tutelage of several legendary broadcasters including John Chancellor, David Brinkley, Barbara Walters and Willard Scott.

In 1978, Mr. Wheaton moved to New York where he branched into further arenas including print and billboard ads, commercials, television, film, and theatre. During the next five years, Mr. Wheaton would become one of the top commercial and print actors in America, appearing as the principal actor in nearly 300 commercials for sponsors such as Amway, Amtrak, Dean Witter, Hartford Insurance, Millionaire Cologne for Mennen, Kodak, Polaroid, McDonald’s, Wrigley’s Extra Gum, Cadillac, Sears, Jello, and dozens more. In 1982, he was cast and starred with George Kennedy in ABC’s “CounterAttack:  Crime in America.” After the series was completed, Mr. Wheaton continued to work in episodic television.

After a career as an actor, model and radio personality, Wheaton founded The Management group Sports/Entertainment Representatives. There he began guiding the careers of athletes and entertainers, specializing in securing product endorsements and producing special events such as the Michael Jordan Celebrity Golf  Tournament for the United Negro College Fund and working with Milton Berle on the Ruth Berle Celebrity Golf Tournament for the benefit of the American Cancer Society. Recently, Mr. Wheaton served as legal counsel and heirs’ counsel for the Prince Rogers Nelson Estate in Minneapolis. The heirs were recently certified after a year of litigation.

For several years, Wheaton served on the board of the Black Entertainment and Sports Lawyers Association (BESLA). He also served as a producer of sports-related programming and executive producer of an hour long special entitled, “Sports Greats: one on One with David Hartman which aired on ESPN.

A native of Los Angeles, but raised in nearby Compton he made an unsuccessful bid to unseat incumbent Compton, California City Councilmember Yvonne Arceneaux.

Despite a constant and rigorous schedule, Mr. Wheaton still manages to find the time for personal speaking engagements, golf, and time with his family.
