After 30 years of Practicing law, Ms. Rios have found that litigation only harms the family that is transforming into a different model. Everyone experiences family law differently. In most cases there is unpleasantness, painful decisions are being made and changes are occurring whether desired or not.

Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) is a term used by professionals in the field to refer to methods of settling matters other than litigation  which would otherwise involve trial lawyers, judges and courts.  Mediation in Family Law is a process somewhat familiar to the general public, however, a new and exciting direction of ADR has come of age – Collaborative Family Law, which offers divorcing parties the opportunity, with the assistance of collaborative attorneys and an interdisciplinary team truly dedicated to helping the parties  resolve their disputes by an agreement reached by the parties, for the parties, instead of a court imposing judgment.

In Collaborative Family Law, an interdisciplinary team is assembled by adding team members as the needs arise or as a complete team from the beginning, allowing each party to be confident, focused, and comfortable. Each party is represented by a Collaborative Family Law attorney who provides legal advice, guidance and expertise in the legal process.  Also, each party has a Coach who is a mental health professional assisting that party in dealing emotionally with negotiation and resolution of the case. A Child Specialist is on board to provide input from the children, an assessment of how each parent can assist the children in minimizing the negative impact of the divorce process, and maximizing the emotional well being of the child while maintaining bonds with divorcing pare.

Collaborative divorce provides each party with an attorney and a mental health coach to ease this transition and allow fairness. A child specialist is appointed for the children whose lives are being impacted. The use of a neutral financial specialist allows the party to explore options in collaborative law and/or mediation that are not otherwise available during this period in their lives.

Arbitration can offer a private forum to resolve issues without major conflict.

Ms. Rios received her B.S.L., 1978 and her J.D. – Juris Doctor, 1979 from Western State University College of Law. She is a member of the State Bar of California, Los Angeles County Bar Association, Riverside County Bar Association, East-West Family Law Council, and President of the Collaborative Divorce Professionals of the Inland Empire (CDPIE). Delilah has been married to her husband, Pedro W Rios Rodriguez for 36 years. They have two adult children: Mark Rios, an audio engineer graduating from the Los Angeles Film School in Hollywood and Franchesca Cortez, MA, a PhD Candidate.
