Top Attorney – Henry F. Owens III

Boston, MA WW/Press/September  30, 2019 –Henry F. Owens III, Attorney at Law, was selected for inclusion into the Top Attorneys of North America 2019-2020 edition by The Who’s Who Directories.

Henry F. Owens, III has been practicing in the areas of civil and criminal litigation, personal injury, and products liability for nearly 50 years. In 1969, he was one of the founding members of the first Black law firm in New England. Mr. Owens has tried over 500 jury trials in state and federal courts in Massachusetts and other jurisdictions. He has been Plaintiff and Defense counsel in some of the most controversial and highly publicized cases in the Commonwealth, such as representing the estate of Reverend Accelyne Williams, which received national media attention and involved issues of police misconduct with the Boston Police Department. Henry Owens also won an acquittal of Richard Allen in the Puopolo murder case, which established the law that prohibits the use of peremptory challenges to exclude Black jurors from jury service. Currently, he is outside defense counsel for General Motors Corporation.

Attorney Owens is admitted to practice in the State of Massachusetts, the U.S. District Court, District of Massachusetts, the U.S. Court of Appeals, First Circuit, and the U.S. Supreme Court. Henry received his B.S. from Southern Connecticut State University in 1964 and his J.D. in 1967, from Suffolk University Law School. He was selected in 1995 as one of the Top 10 Leading Litigators in the Nation by The National Law Journal and one of The Best Lawyers in America by Woodward and White. Henry was a Former City Council and Vice Mayor of Cambridge Massachusetts.
