Top Attorney – Hon. Rusty E. McGuire
Louisa, VA WW/Press/July 18, 2016 –Rusty E. McGuire, Attorney with Louisa County, was selected for inclusion into the Top Attorneys of North America 2016 edition by The Who’s Who Directories. 
In 1988, Rusty McGuire dropped out of high school and joined the Virginia Army National Guard. Instead of becoming a statistic the military provided him drive and motivation to set a path for success. Eight years later he earned a degree from the Virginia Military Institute and commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Infantry. He earned his J.D. from the Thomas Cooley Law School and started his career as a prosecutor in the in the City of Richmond. Two years later he started teaching full-time at Virginia Union University. In 2003, McGuire left his position as a professor to return to the practice of law as a cyber prosecutor. He earned a national reputation as a litigator of cyber crimes. He prosecuted our nation’s first felony cyber SPAM case, the Virginia Attorney General’s first cyber identity theft case, and brought many of Virginia’s worst cyber predators to justice.
In 2011, he was elected Commonwealth’s Attorney of Louisa County where he continues to advocate the use of technology to solve crimes. McGuire was instrumental for all jurisdictions to use cyber cops, tactical polygraphs, historical cell analysis, and computer forensics. Recently he demonstrated the success of this approach during the investigation and prosecution of a criminal street gang where the jury convicted all six defendants of all of their charges in a 32 count indictment. Outside of the courtroom his passion is helping to train wounded, ill, and injured warriors to become cyber cops. The National Association to Protect Children, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and U.S. Special Operations Command created the Human Exploitation Rescue Operative (H.E.R.O.) Child-Rescue Corps program designed to enlist military veterans in the fight to protect children from cyber predators. McGuire assists in presenting the legal and courtroom testimony training these new cyber warriors. After two deployments in the Global War on Terror, he continues to serve in the Virginia Army National Guard.
