James Cooper has been a practicing attorney since 1974. He was an attorney for the Public Housing Authority for thirty years. Prior to beginning his legal career, Cooper served 20 years in the U.S. Air Force, with 14 years as a pilot. He spent a total of more than 7,000 hours of flying time, including more than 100 combat missions in Vietnam. During the 20 years, he obtained an undergraduate degree, making it possible to attend law school and achieve his goal. Cooper is also the Trustee for several funds (more than $4M worth), He is President of the Anthony J. Brill Foundation, Inc., and Co-Trustee for the foundation as well. Cooper uses these funds to further the educational pursuits of young people.Mr. Cooper received his J.D. from Duke University Law School. He is a member of the North Carolina Bar and was an Air Force Officer for fifteen years. He was awarded a Master Pilot’s Award for more than 50 years promoting safe aircraft operations and is recognized by the Top Attorneys of North America, 2018 Attorney Of The Year.
His son Robert is an attorney at the firm and his granddaughter graduated from Campbell University Law School in May 2016.
