Prof. Dr. Bangalore T. Lakshman, philanthropist icon, Founder and Chairman of the BTL Foundation for International Services, USA and the BTL Educational Trust for Rural Development, India. He has been conferred with many prestigious awards in India as well as abroad. To name a few, he has received the coveted Rajyotsava Award by the Government of Karnataka, India in 1988, he received the Jefferson Award in the United States in 1993, the Rotary International’s highest award “Service Above Self” in 1998, the Hon. D. Litt award by Bangalore University in 2014, and was chosen for the best award in the Non Resident Bengalurean category by Mr. Rajeev Chandrasekar, Honorable MP and Chairman of Namma Bengaluru awards. Dr. Lakshman had his name recommended by the Department of Kannada and Culture for conferring the “KARNATAKA RATHNA Award” on him to Honorable Chief Minister’s office which he richly deserves.
Dr. Lakshman has dedicated 50 % of his salary earnings while in service and also set apart 50 % of his personal assets in India and the USA for the Trust and Foundation. He is promoting multi-cultural understanding and friendship by providing health, education and humanitarian services to people in need in the U.S., India, and Abroad.
The Foundation is nonprofit and nonsectarian and dedicated to providing services to all. The Foundation provides holiday meals to the needy, instituted an endowment at the University of Delaware towards scholarships, adopt-a-highway cleaning program, and has sponsored a Blind Artist Group. His Trust in India was solely intended to provide job oriented education and healthcare services in rural areas of Karnataka in particular and India in general. At present he has 14 educational Institutions offering from Pre KG to PhD with a total student strength of over 5000 and staff strength of over 300.
Additionally, he has provided a 30-bed hospital, an endowment to provide scholarships to needy students in India, raised money for a clean water project, the rebuilding of schools, and many more projects over the years.
Prof. Dr. Lakshman has contributed USD 1,350,000 towards the Foundation’s Projects. He is a Delegate, to the Water Industries Specialist Delegation from USA to USSR and has published several technical papers in National and International conferences.
Prof. Dr. Lakshman has held various offices from Chairman of the DES Members Relation Committee, to the ASCE Ground water & hydrology Committee. He has also served as Governor of the Rotary club for 2 States and was previously a Chief Engineer and a Hydraulics & Water Quality Engineer, for the Artesian Water Company in Delaware, as well as a Research Fellow & Teaching Assistant at the University of Delaware.
