Top Attorney – Ryan C. Marques
Indianapolis, IN WW/Press/September 28, 2015 –Ryan C. Marques, Senior Associate Attorney and Honorary Consul of Portugal to the State of Indiana, with Lewis Kappes, P.C. and Embassy of Portugal, was selected for inclusion in The Top Attorneys of North America 2015-16 edition by The Who’s Who Directories.
Mr. Marques is a Senior Associate Attorney in the Immigration Group for Lewis Kappes, P.C., and he serves as the Honorary Consul of Portugal to the State of Indiana. In his immigration practice, Mr. Marques assists clients in the acquisition of employment-based immigrant and non-immigrant visas; the acquisition of family-based visas to enter the United States; and the resolution of general immigration issues such as deportation and removal defense, adjustment of status, naturalization, asylum, consular processing, waivers of inadmissibility, post-conviction relief, and education law. Mr. Marques is admitted to practice law before the United States Supreme Court, the United States Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals, the United States Northern and Southern District Courts of Indiana, the Indiana Supreme Court, and the United States Department of Justice, Executive Office for Immigration Review.
In 2014, Mr. Marques was appointed by the Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and declared his diplomatic credentials by the United States Department of State as the Honorary Consul of Portugal to the State of Indiana. As the Honorary Consul of Portugal to the State of Indiana, Mr. Marques is responsible for promoting trade, investments, and tourism between the Country of Portugal and the State of Indiana. Also, he meets regularly with state and local government officials and corporate leaders to explain Portugal’s interest and to assist appropriate parties in obtaining information on policy and protocol. Additionally, Mr. Marques serves to protect the interests of Portugal and its citizens living and/or visiting in the State of Indiana within the limits prescribed by international law. Mr. Marques reports directly to the Embassy of Portugal in Washington D.C. and performs other diplomatic functions as designated by the Government of Portugal.
Mr. Marques graduated from Butler University with a degree of Bachelor of Science majoring in both Finance and Spanish. He was a four year NCAA Division I Varsity letter winner for the Butler University Men’s Soccer Team. He also earned an Honors Diploma in History from La Universidad de Salamanca. In 2010, Mr. Marques graduated from the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law and he now serves as a member of the Board of Alumni for the Law School. Mr. Marques is a Licensed Insurance Producer and a Certified and Registered Civil Mediator in the State of Indiana.
Mr. Marques has been awarded and recognized as a “Rising Star” by Super Lawyers Magazine in the practice of Immigration Law for years 2016, 2015, and 2014. Additionally, Mr. Marques was selected and successfully completed in 2015 the State of Indiana’s Most Prestigious Executive Leadership Program – Stanley K. Lacy Executive Leadership Series (Class XXXIX). Furthermore, Mr. Marques has a strong history in economic development, having previously served leadership roles in both the private and not-for-profit sectors, and currently serves on several professional boards throughout the State of Indiana. Mr. Marques’ publications on immigration law and economic development have been featured in the Indianapolis Business Journal, the American Immigration Lawyers Association, the Indiana General Assembly, and the Greater Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce.
