Chavon Carr’s deep commitment to improving quality of life through community revitalization has led to a decade-long career rooted in real estate. She boasts extensive experience in structuring and implementing financial and real estate transactional deals for both the public and private sector. Carr began her law career in Houston, Texas in 2007. She joined the Houston Metropolitan Transit Authority (METRO) as a U.S. right of way attorney. Her efforts lead to Metro acquiring more than 100 commercial and residential properties and provided litigation management for properties resulting in condemnation. Additionally, she oversaw an audit of acquisition files to ensure proper compliance with federal and state regulations. In 2011, Carr joined Sadler Law, LLP as an associate attorney, marking her transition to the law firm sector. Carr analyzed complex probate and real estate title issues for exploration and production companies, prepared title opinions for drilling, division orders, financing and acquisitions.
Carr moved on to transactional energy group of Steptoe & Johnson, PLLC, one of the country’s top energy law firms. As an associate attorney, Carr focused on growing the firm’s presence and clientele in the Houston market. She worked in the area of compliance, assuring clients were compliant with local and federal regulatory standards in the drilling of oil and gas properties and assets. In 2015, Carr entered the entrepreneurial realm and launched Carr + Associates, where she currently serves as managing attorney. The firm focuses on probate and real estate law, assisting families in the planning and administration of estates. Her clients include real estate developers, investors and community development corporations and nonprofit organizations seeking to advance their missions and goals. She continues this work through her role as a part-time staff attorney at the Earl Carl Institute for Legal and Social Policy, Inc. where she provides legal services to low-income individuals in Houston and surrounding counties in the area of probate and real estate. Civically, Carr is engaged in strengthening the communities through legal knowledge. She hosts regular meetings with community members, educating individuals on probate and real estate issues. Ms. Carr received her B.A. from Spelman College and her J.D. with a certificate in Health Law from St. Louis University School of Law. She is a member of the Texas Bar Association (Probate and Real Estate Section), State Bar of Texas Pro Bono College, Houston Bar Association (Probate and Real Estate Section), Steering Committee for Northern Third Ward Planning Committee, and president of Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church Legal Ministry.
