The accomplishments and achievements attained by Ms. Christina Ghio, in the field of Legal Services, warrants inclusion into the Top Attorneys of North America. Christina Ghio is a certified child welfare law specialist who has spent the last twenty years fighting to improve the lives of children through civil litigation and policy advocacy. In 2005, Attorney Ghio was chosen by the CT Law Tribune as one of Connecticut’s “New Leaders of the Law” for attorneys admitted to the Bar for ten years or less who have made important contributions and who serve as role models. From 2006 to 2010, Attorney Ghio was the lead investigator for the Connecticut Child Advocate’s in-depth investigation into the response of local school districts, the Department of Children and Families (DCF), and the State Department of Education when school employees are accused of abusing or neglecting children. The investigation culminated in a report, entitled Protecting Our Children: Improving Protections For Children When Allegations Are Made That School System Personnel Abused and/or Neglected Children, and led to significant legislation to address systemic deficiencies. Attorney Ghio is respected by her colleagues and clients for her compassionate yet aggressive legal advocacy and her ability to handle complex cases involving multiple state agencies that provide services to children and youth transitioning to adulthood. Because of her extensive knowledge and experience in representing children in special education, disability discrimination, child abuse and neglect, and juvenile justice matters, Attorney Ghio has been called upon to mentor attorneys who are new to representing children and to provide training and technical assistance to attorneys and others advocating on behalf of children. Christina received her J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center and the Connecticut Law Tribune’s “Young Leaders in the Law” award in 2005. She is a member of the Council of Parent Attorneys and Advocates, the National Association of Counsel for Children, the Connecticut Bar Association, and was a Board Member of New England Juvenile Defender Center from 2000 to 2004.
