Michael A. Valentine has been practicing law in the areas of real estate, commercial and construction litigation for nearly twenty years. Currently, his practice is concentrated in appellate litigation, business litigation, commercial litigation, real estate litigation, real estate transactions, residential and commercial landlord/tenant litigation, residential and commercial leasing, wage and hour cases, and wireless communication agreements .

Attorney Valentine received a B.A. degree with honors from the City College of New York in 1987 and obtained his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center in 1990. While at Georgetown, Michael co-authored a major paper for the National Conference of State Legislatures on child care development financing, and made a presentation before the New York State Banking Department on the use of Community Reinvestments Act (CRA) standards to stimulate lending for child care development. Upon graduation from Georgetown University Law Center, Mr. Valentine served as principal law clerk for Judge Frederick D. Dorsey, District of Columbia Superior Court, Washington, DC from 1990 to 1991.

Prior to starting his own practice, Mr. Valentine was an associate in the commercial litigation and cooperative housing practices of Szold & Brandwen, P.C. Mr. Valentine represented primarily Mitchell-Lama cooperatives in commercial and complex litigation in State Supreme Court, summary proceedings in Civil Court as well as in administrative hearings. During his tenure with Szold & Brandwen, Mr. Valentine had decisions in nine cases published. Before entering private practice, Mr. Valentine was a trial attorney in the Civil Division of the Legal Aid Society and was instrumental in establishing a mortgage defense practice in Queens for the Legal Aid Society, which defended victims of predatory lending practices. Moreover, Mr. Valentine vigorously defended the free speech rights of New York City Housing Authority tenant association preside in administrative proceedings. Mr. Valentine’s distinguished public service record also includes serving as the Special Assistant to Justice Fern Fisher, Administrative Judge for the Civil Court of the City of New York. As Justice Fisher’s Special Assistant, Mr. Valentine assisted in the implementation Chief Justice Judith Kaye’s reform of Housing Court. In particular, he recruited and trained over 425 attorneys throughout New York City to assist pro se litigate in Housing Court. Michael has received numerous awards during his academic and professional career, including the Theodore Leskes Memorial Award, The Meyer Cohn Essay Prize, The Bennett Prize, the Sylvia H. Gregory Urban Legal Studies Award, and the Samuel & Esther Shipiro Scholarship.
