Michael R. Varble and team are proud to announce that they have successfully recovered a majority of the money stolen from the Town of Beekman following a comptroller scandal. Of the half million dollars stolen from the town, the team was able to recover $440,000. The Poughkeepsie Journal reports Beekman comptroller Fred Knapp pleaded guilty to the theft of approximately $539,000 of taxpayer money earlier this year. The theft was discovered after his tenure of comptroller when Beekman bookkeeper Bill Bradley discovered major discrepancies in the town’s financial records. It was found that Knapp used the money for personal expenses including credit card payments and international travel. He is currently serving three to nine years in prison. Michael was also involved in the committee to elect Tracy McKenzie for Dutchess County Family Court Judge. Mr. Varble was recognized as an Avvo Top Contributor and Avvo Clients ‘ Choice of 2015, having an 8.6 rating. He received his B.A. from Ohio State University and his J.D. from New York Law School.
